Bunco...

Bunco at my house last night was nice. The weather was great. All in all it was just a good time with friends. I am totally exhausted today though. I always wait till the last minute to get my stuff together. Maybe some day I will be more organized. Of course, I didn't have much time to take pictures, but my friend Teresa at PlumWater Cottage got some really good shots of my kitchen. Her camera is great! Thanks Teresa!

Planning for Bunco!

Tomorrow is Bunco at my house. I have been looking through recipe books and magazines for recipes. I am trying to go simple. So here is the menu.

Snack-Sliced apples with Phat Girls Caramel Dip (I got this recipe from Kim at Simple Needs)
Dinner-Plain Old Green Beans
Hash Brown Casserole (aka cheesy potatoes)
Pork Chops with Apples and Stuffing (courtesy of Kraft Food & Family)
Rolls
Dessert-Praline Carrot Cake

At the price of groceries, we might have to stop eating at Bunco and just playing. Goodness, I could feed my family for 3 days on what I spent for this meal!

Now I have to get my house cleaned!

Home Sweet Home

It is always nice to go away. But why is it, that we just look forward to coming back home? It was nice to get away and spend time with my mother and sister at the reunion. But sleeping on the floor on an air mattress, made me appreciate my own fluffy bed. I don't know why I always get stuck on the floor, after all we are all family. Why can't someone share a bed? Have a little respect for your elder, little sis!

We stayed at the Mammoth Cave Hotel. Very nice accomodations. This year we stayed in one of the handicapped accessible rooms, since mom had her knee replacement surgery, we thought this would be best. The meeting room was just right outside our door. Not far for mom to walk to visit with family. In years past, we have stayed in the rooms that have a balcony overlooking the woods. Maybe again sometime.

Now, I know you all have this picture of a family reunion in your heads...well this is not it. No barbeque. No sack races. Watermelon. None of that. This family reunion is held at Mammoth Cave National Park. As a matter of fact, this is a reunion for "geneaology buffs". Volumes of family trees, pictures and stories. I love the stories. There is one man in particular, who has that back hills southern drawl. You have to listen to him really closely to catch what he is saying. Not many people know the story of the park, well the real story. Let's just say, when Uncle Sam wants to do something, there is no stopping him. People living their lives in their little homes, and then bam, nothing. Many of these people didn't want to give up their home for a park, of all things. We heard rumors of people being stubborn, not wanting to leave. While they were at church or gone to town for groceries, they were burned out. People sitting with their guns trying to keep their homesteads. It is nice that they have this wonderful park for people to visit, but the next time you go to a National Park, think about the people who used to inhabit that land.
The dining hall is very interesting. This was one of my favorite parts. Not that the food was that great. But the pictures were amazing. If you look closely at the walls, they have all these old photos of the park on the walls. Photos of the original inn, people making baskets and weaving. There is this really cool picture of a wedding in the cave. Of course, that was over 100 years ago. They used to have dining in one of the caves. I'll bet that was interesting, trying to get hot food to those guests.
The animals there are not afraid of humans at all. Did you know that deer love candy corn? There were so many deer, they would come right up to the van. Loads of turkey. Of course, I didn't get any pictures, I was always driving.
Glad to be back home in Indiana!

Going, going, gone

Well my friends, I have been without internet since Sunday. We had over 80 mph winds, knocking down trees, power lines, etc.
I will be leaving for Mammoth Cave in the morning for a family reunion and will return Sunday. Hope to have some good pictures to post. Take care!

TIME FOR PINK SATURDAY

Thanks to Beverly for hosting another great Pink Saturday. Given the season, I was curious if there were any pink Witch costumes out there. Here is a sampling of what I found. Enjoy!

Glenda, the good witch, of course.

This dress I found on Etsy. It is gorgeous!

No witch costume wouldn't be complete without the witch hat!

I thought being a red head was bad. How about that shocking Pink hair!

Halloween Preview #2

Here is a peek at some more of my Halloween decor. This is a little display in my kitchen. The walls are finally painted in the kitchen. Well at least this wall. I still have another one to go! In the top picture, does that look like an "orb" to anyone else but me? Both of these pictures were taken within seconds of each other, one has the "orb" and the other one does not. Kind of spooky!

An up-close shot of my collection on the shelf

and my little witch boot cross stitch.

Shoulder update

Well, the good news is, I am NOT crazy. I had my MRI yesterday morning and by 2:00 p.m. I had the results. Throughout this whole ordeal, my biggest fear has been that they could find no reason for the pain. I have a tear in my rotator cuff, a tear in something else that I can't remember the name of and a good case of capsulitis (aka frozen shoulder). In my research, I have seen frozen shoulder described as your body making an abundant supply of scar tissue in the shoulder joint. My chiropractor says a lot of times the body does this to actually protect the injured area. So I am waiting for an appointment to see an orthopedic doctor, not the one I had seen before. In the meantime, nothing seems to be helping with the pain, it just keeps getting worse. But I shall plug along, although not at my normal speed.

Halloween Preview #1

Even though I didn't get much accomplished this weekend, I did manage to get one little Halloween Vignette put together.

This little quilt is made from feed sack reproduction fabrics. While usually not my style, it does have some tiny jack-o-lantern fabric in it. I do love the pumpkin guy. I put a little spikey grass in it. I thought it kind of looked like hair. The lighting isn't very good, but the skeleton is actually made from plaster that I poured in a chocolate mold. The sign, a gift from one of my kids for my birthday. The black cat has a pumpkin on a stick, you can't see it very well though.

Even though this isn't Halloween, I just love this little stitchery that I got at Maple Leaf Lane earlier this year.
